The Vehicle Interdiction Techniques (VIT) course will take a critical look at the principles, logistics and realities of intervening with a vehicle in transit. Various progressive techniques are examined for their benefits and detractions in an academic approach, and then will be delivered in scripted and opposed formats at real speeds. Risk mitigation regarding vehicles in motion and the inherent hazards of these types of events will be examined at length.

Principles of vehicle interdictions, hasty versus planned events, ballistic and human performance as well as officer staging, movement and positioning will be covered. Vehicle pins, blocks and precision immobilization techniques (PITs) will be taught, reviewed, and applied. These are long days with an extreme emphasis on safety and proper application of principles.

  • VIT is closed or agency-run course, which is generally 20-hours in length and delivered in a 2-day format.
  • It is beneficial to have previous knowledge of vehicle ballistics and/or combine this course with VCQB™ or a HRVS Instructor Workshop.

Course Prerequisites:

  • VIT is a closed/agency run course, generally 20 hours in length delivered in 2 days of training.
  • It is beneficial, but not required, to have previous knowledge of vehicle ballistics and or combine this course with VCQB® or HRVS Instructor.
  • Current Canadian law enforcement, peace officer, corrections, or active military status.
  • Legal firearms: department issued and/or personally owned with valid paperwork.
  • Able to demonstrate and employ safe weapons handling during training.
  • Previous intermediate to advanced firearms training to include movement, barricades, communication with others and adverse shooting positions is recommended.
